Moody’s Namena Resort - 7 Night Diving Package
The focus on Namenalala Island is enjoyment of the natural land and sea environment. The Namena Barrier Reef which surrounds us is one of Fiji's most diversified and spectacular reef ecosystems with over 30 kilometers of walls and bommies (sea mounts). The South Pacific claims over 300 varieties of corals in comparison to around 30 varieties in the Caribbean; the Fiji Islands are known as the Soft Coral capital of the Pacific. Scuba enthusiasts and snorkelers will find a diversity of reef corals and marine creatures on the barrier reef which is at our back door just minutes away from the island's beaches and tropical forests. Depending on prevailing sea conditions, snorkelers are welcome to join the divers on the daily excursions to the barrier reef at no additional charge. We do not anchor the boat on any part of the reef; your trained boat crew will follow and pick you up when your dive or snorkel is finished.
At the entrance to the North Save-a-Tack Passage, the wall drops over a mile deep - we have named this site the Grand Canyon. Fish Patch is at the same entrance into the reef where one can swim with schools of pelagics ... barracudas, trevally, tuna, sharks, walu.....and just a few feet away a myriad of colorful reef fish glide in and out of the corals on the wall. Spectacular bommies rim the South Save-a-Tack passages ... Chimneys, Tetons, Seven Dwarfs, Neptune’s Haunt, Magic Mountain and many more, each with its own resident marine life. Dives are carefully chosen by your divemaster, since seeing the soft corals in bloom are dependent upon prevailing tidal flow and current. Some sites at the far tip of the reef can only be dived when sea conditions are calm - mainly between the months of October to March - as the reef is quite exposed.
Namenalala Island is one of Fiji's largest hawksbill turtle-nesting areas so both divers and snorkelers swim with them at all times of the year. Nesting season runs from December to March and if you are here at that time, there is a chance that you will see either the female laying her eggs on the beach above high-water mark or watching nests hatch and the babies making their way to the sea. We do see turtles year round as the Namena Barrier Reef is also the feeding ground for both the green turtle and the hawksbill
